The Lip of Luxury

Among the specials was one entree that is well worth the indulgence (and the price). Half of a massive two-and-a-half-pound lobster arrived balanced atop an enormous mound of wonderful spinach-and-rock-shrimp risotto with a champagne sauce. It was truly one of the best dishes I've tasted in recent months. Far less exciting, though tasty nonetheless, was the restaurant's grilled dolphin. The tender dolphin meat was accompanied by portobello mushroom slices, what the restaurant refers to as "smashed" potato, broccoli rabe, and roasted garlic-lemon sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked and well seasoned.

After devouring the entrees, we thought dessert seemed absolutely out of the question. We opted to linger over the last drops of a rich and earthy Sterling Vineyards cabernet sauvignon, which is among the more moderately priced bottles on a list featuring a handful of stratospherically priced wines. Delaying dessert even further, we ordered cappuccino, which, oddly enough, was the only misstep in an otherwise flawless evening. The espresso was topped with the thickest, densest, most overwhipped milk topping I have ever encountered. The bricklike milk made the coffee nearly undrinkable. Finally, when we could delay no further, we summoned our waiter, who promptly ran down the list of desserts. (The selection changes nightly.)

We selected the almond roll, a moist pound cake with almond cream inside, a toasted almond crust, and caramel sauce, and the Black Forest chocolate cake with truffled chocolate and layered vanilla cream and cherries. Both were absolutely decadent.

Closed Location

We left the Galaxy Grille feeling plump and pampered. This summer, while I can still get a table, I may return to the restaurant for the celestial lobster and a fine glass of wine.
