I find it easy to laud Atlanta Bread Company (301 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-522-0888). Not because the gourmet breads are baked fresh daily, though they are. Not because the meats and cheeses they use for their sandwiches are prime quality, though they are. Not because the soups are steaming and fragrant, the salads crisp and piled high, the pastries jumbo with a tender crumb. They all are. But I appreciate, even more than the fare, the credo that goes along with it: Waste not, want not. Every day the baked goods that remain unsold are donated to charity rather than recycled to customers. Now that's what I call community service.
