32 Eats

When Barbara Straub and partners opened 32 Eats (Shoppes at Addison Place, 16950 Jog Rd., Delray Beach, 561-638-0432) last May next door to their well-regarded 32 East restaurant, they brought in two players from the winning New York City takeout team of Dean and Deluca as general manager and head of charcuterie. That was the first of many smart moves. Others included organizing the contemporary interior in an easy-to-browse manner and stocking the spacious room with impressive imports like Devonshire cream, Serrano ham, chunks of Bernard Callebaut chocolate, and ripening-as-you-read-this French Brie. There's plenty more, most notably exotic olives, extensive wines, and a display case of freshly prepared foods that are always made the same day they're sold. Pastries and breads, from mocha cheesecakes and fruit tarts to scones and baguettes, are baked daily on the premises as well. It's all rather pricey, but one bite of the crusty pain au levain, and you realize that this is what money was made for.
