Clone Wars

In The 6th Day, raging ideologies propel a kinder, gentler Arnie into action

It's easy to complain that there's just no way Schwarzenegger could come across as a regular Joe, but look again; his comedy movies have given him a surprisingly jocular edge. While this role is a far cry from the badly dubbed debut of "Arnold Strong" in Hercules in New York 30 years ago, it is, in its way, equally charming.

The sole complaint is that, rather than provoking the tears of a clone, The 6th Day takes the easy way out of the double-hero issue, which is strangely limp-wristed, considering that this is the director who brought us Under Fire. Otherwise, as we await a sequel to Total Recall, it's a pleasure to know that a restful seventh day with Arnold could hold much promise.
