This shop carries a familiar-exotic ethnic mix of Indian-Pakistani groceries, compact discs, tapes, videos, and other cultural, hard-to-find necessities for the local community, which looks to be burgeoning. What sets this shop apart from other Indian markets around town is three-fold: cleanliness, friendliness, and range of goods. Not only can I source dal flour, basmati rice, custom-cut halal meats, produce, nuts, and spices -- the basic ingredients to cook up some powerful curries and masalas at home -- I can find reliable shortcuts. That includes jarred mango pickle, prepared coriander chutney, and even homemade naan and desserts like golub jamun (honey-soaked doughnuts). Can't figure out which brand to buy? The employees are so helpful they'll tell you which ones are the best, even when they're not the most expensive, thus guaranteeing your return.
