Of the dozen or so definitions for jerk in the dictionary, only one concerns me. OK, I lied. Actually, three kinds of jerks have captured my attention: the jerk chicken, jerk pork, and jerk fish that will be available and in abundance September 1 from noon until 8 p.m. That's when the Jamaican Jerk Festival will take place at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines. Festivities, activities, and entertainment include jerk demonstrations by authorities from Portland, Jamaica; jerk cook-offs; jerk pork-eating contests; reggae and calypso bands; and a domino contest in which the winner receives a trip to Jamaica. All that for only six bucks, and kids under age ten are allowed in for free. I can definitely think of more expensive and less novel ways to get jerked.
