Vintage Vittles

Find those Hometown Favorites on the Web

Vintage clothing might be the fashion right now. But too often, it seems like once we're all dressed up in someone else's grandma's pencil skirt and beaded sweater, we've got no place to go. Here's some direction: Check out Hometown Favorites(www.hometownfavorites.com; or call 888-694-2656), and throw an era-oriented dinner party with products that you haven't seen in at least as long as those elbow-length gloves have been on hands. This site, founded by Colleen Chapin in 1996 and physically located in West Palm Beach, was initially launched to provide local snowbirds with a taste of the north. But it quickly morphed into a research tool for folks who haven't had, say, Bruce's Yam Glaze for a good long time. And speaking of yams, Hometown Favorites is also a good place to source the stuff you'll need to celebrate the holidays the way you used to when you were a child. With all that's going on in the world today, it's easy to see how a can of Belle of Maine Fiddleheads or Grandma Brown's Home Saucepan Beans can be construed as innocent comfort food.
