In 1998, when his tours of duty were over, Haze returned to South Florida and started racking up jobs all over Miami-Dade and Broward. "When I came back here," he explains, "I started getting creative."
Now, he says, he may well be here to stay. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's the women. Maybe it's the work. Or maybe it's the fans. Renee Williams, unlike most people in the Hemisphere Lounge tonight, isn't here for a convention or for the super-duper Art Basel show. Williams, a 47-year-old accountant from North Miami Beach, is here for Haze, hooked after hearing him sing and honk a while back in a Peruvian restaurant on Miami Gardens Drive.
"After that," she says, "I just wanted to hear him play."
