As South Florida band family trees tend to be, Secret Service's lineage is quite involved. Singer Michael Alen and drummer Sean Perscky formed Nobuhjest in 1994 while Alen was also playing in the punk outfit One Size Fits All. That band morphed into Brown Study, and Secret Service was born in 1998. After several lineup changes, the band now consists of Alen on bass and vocals, Manny Rodriguez on guitar, and Perscky on drums. Whew. Melodic, intricate, bursting with guitar arithmetic and angular lashings, and vaguely reminiscent of past Spy-Fi labelmates Machete, Secret Service can nail a pop hook into your head while subtly assaulting your eardrums. It's rock viscera at its finest. Check them out when they open for Melt-Banana on Thursday, July 3, at the Factory, 2674 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
