Tennis and Tight Pants

Scarred survivors of the 1980s rock scene, unite!

FRI 12/19The Diplomat Country Club (501 Diplomat Pkwy., Hallandale Beach) hosts two days of talented tennis and old-school rock 'n' roll this Friday and Saturday. The whole thing kicks off 7 p.m. Friday with exhibition matches featuring Robert Seguso and Ken Flach, (once the No. 1 doubles team in the world ) and others. So it's fitting that, when the concert portion of this event occurs at 8:30 p.m., it include a slew of performers whose careers reached their zenith at about the same time. One of the main moving forces behind the event is Phil Ehart, the drummer for Kansas, who performs with Kansas lead singer Steve Walsh. Along with these Kansans, you've got Steve Augeri, Jimi Jamison, Jerry Beckley, and Tommy Shaw, the lead singers of Journey, Survivor, America, and Styx, respectively. Although this event, "Serving Up the Rock," includes such less-than-illustrious names, you can't blame singers or tennis pros for making a living at what they do best. In Augeri's case, we make an exception -- we're quite sure he does something better than impersonate Steve Perry. I mean, that can't be your only skill, right? Admission is $50 in advance, $75 at the door. Call 954-602-6000. -- Dan SweeneyAll Things Considered

Imploding Doomed Clowns leads to a mellow Bad Religion

SUN 12/21Dada (52 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach), the mid-Palm Beach County spot for the ultrahip and anyone else who feels like paying too much for drinks, plays host to Daytona Beach's Consider This this Sunday. Downtown Delray Beach is starting to look suspiciously like some strange indie South Beach. If that's the case, Dada would be the epicenter. Compared to that more Southern party spot, it's dirt cheap. As for the band, Consider This is made up of former members of the Doomed Clowns. "Think acoustic Bad Religion," Dada's website says. We tried to, but our brains shut down completely when we attempted to come up with such a paradox. Call 561-330-3232. -- Dan Sweeney
