It's been three weeks since New Year's, and you know you're not going to spend the rest of your life -- as per your resolution -- without ever again experiencing sublime French pastry, so it's time to get reasonable and decide the best means of breaking that regrettable pledge. Let us suggest Croissan'Time (1201 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale, 954-565-8555), a hugely popular indoor/outdoor French bakery/café/fine foods market since 1986. But there are some questions: Do you throw yourself off the wagon via an assortment of mini-éclairs, napoleons, fruit tartelettes, or each of the made-on-the-premises ice creams and sorbets? Or do you satisfy your craving by succumbing to the fresh baguettes that exit the oven every 45 minutes? Of course, the superb pain au chocolat would be a nice compromise, but this is not the occasion for going halfway, so we advise you to resolutely reverse your resolution with Croissan'Time's signature "fraisier," a strawberry shortcake layered with fresh berries, kirsch liqueur, and vanilla cream, topped with flakes of white chocolate. Next step: Go home and burn your copy of The South Beach Diet.
