St. Patrick's Day means more than just wearing green clothes and drinking copious amounts of beer. It's also about, um, uh.... well, OK, maybe that's all there is to Saint Patrick's Day, but choosing the right spot to celebrate is important too, and Rooney's Public House(213 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, 516-833-7802) offers a green party that everyone wants to join. Owned by Pat and Joe Rooney, son and grandson of Pittsburgh Steeler magnate Art Rooney, the Public House has been pleasing Palm Beach locals for the past seven years. While many of this region's Irish pubs shy away from their traditional cuisine in favor of chicken wings and burgers, Rooney's dishes up fresh fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, and a heartwarming version of shepherd's pie. It also pours the sort of dark, top-shelf drafts that can't be dyed green, like Guinness, Harp, Bass, and its own homemade stout and cream ale. Deep, inviting booths make imbibing a pleasure. No reservations, so better get there early.
