FRI 4/23 After you hear Rebecca Kirtman's story, you'll probably want to play golf this Friday, even if you've never picked up a club before in your life. Rebecca was a special young woman who died far too early, in the fall of 2003. While a freshman at Nova High School, she started a charity that provides dresses and formal wear to underprivileged girls who want to attend prom and homecoming dances but cannot afford new outfits. She named the charity Becca's Closet and collected more than 250 pieces of clothing in just over a year. An auto accident took her life last August, but her family and friends have pulled together to continue running Becca's Closet in her honor. In addition to offering clothing, the organization has started a college scholarship fund for struggling youth. On Friday, April 23, Becca's Closet hosts a Charity Golf Tournament at Palm Aire Country Club (2600 Palm Aire Dr. N., Pompano Beach). Former Dolphin and local sports anchor Kim Bokamper serves as honorary chairperson, and the event includes silent and live auctions, raffle prizes, a hole-in-one contest, and a post-tournament buffet dinner reception. The tournament starts with a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m., and the format is a four-person team scramble. Registration costs $150 per person, $600 per team. Call 954-424-9999. --Russ EvansPup Out

Take Fido out to the ball game

SAT 4/24 When's the last time you and your pooch shared a great night out on the town? Tough, isn't it? Especially since most movie theaters, malls, restaurants, and museums don't even allow four-legged creatures through the doors. But this weekend, you will be able to bring your best friend out to a baseball game, as Roger Dean Stadium (4751 Main St., Jupiter) hosts its Dog Days of Summer Night. A dog-friendly section will be reserved especially for canines and their owners during Saturday's game between the Palm Beach Cardinals and the Daytona Cubs. Dogs will be admitted free of charge, and special $7 ticket prices will be offered to dog owners. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Call 561-775-1818. --Russ Evans
