If you remember the original cover of Exodus¹ seminal 1985 thrash classic Bonded by Blood, then this little bit of speculative trivia is for you. The artwork depicts a demonic pair of Siamese twins joined at the back. The twin on the left has curly black hair and olive skin -- especially striking next to his white-as-a-sheet sibling. So, come on -- who else could the darker twin be but Kirk Hammett? When you consider the album¹s title, it makes perfect sense. Hammett founded Exodus with drummer Tom Hunting before leaving to replace Dave Mustaine in Metallica. Arguably, his departure turned Exodus into the band most in need of a suntan. With bands like Exodus, Death Angel, Nuclear Assault, and maybe even Celtic Frost reunited or in the process thereof, it would seem the form is undergoing a renaissance. Mille Petrozza of Kreator (who¹s never broken up) recently cautioned against expecting too much from reuniting metal bands. But if the latest Exodus album, Tempo of the Damned, is any indication, thrash metal is 100-effin¹-percent back, dudes!
