More About

Café 1451 at the Norton (1451 S. Olive Ave., 561-366-8500) is located in the enclosed west courtyard of the Norton Museum of Art, a soaring space filled with natural light, leafy palm trees, and museumgoers munching on sophisticated contemporary American food. The café, managed by the museum's in-house caterer, Lyon & Lyon, has recently hired Executive Chef Mike Webb, formerly of the venerable Hartford Canoe Club in Connecticut. During the offseason, which is now, the Café converts to a mostly self-service menu of items such as crabmeat and corn chowder, sandwiches on ficelle bread, a bountiful Caribbean cobb salad, and various homemade pastries. Light and luscious à la carte picks include crab cakes, tuna tataki, a delectable shrimp and asparagus omelet, and hot entrées of the day; all manner of coffees, teas, and beverages are available as well. Admission to the museum is not required to enjoy the café, nor is admission to the café required to enjoy the museum -- which, incidentally, is currently exhibiting "Hat Ladies" by Julie Moos. During summer, the café is open from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
