Foodstuff

I know what you're thinking: Pancakes, shmancakes. What about waffles? I'm glad you asked. Harbor Café (1396 SE 17th St. Cswy., Fort Lauderdale, 954-467-0363) serves a thick, Belgian-sized beauty with butter pats and glass jar of faux maple syrup ($3.75). Add a hot cup o' joe and you've got yourself as hearty an alternative to pancakes as you're likely to find. It's more substantial still with a couple of eggs and bacon strips ($5.25). Harbor serves all other manner of familiar, low-priced, diner-style breakfasts in a standard coffee shop environment--there're a few outdoor tables too. Lunch items include burgers, salads, deli sandwiches, cheese melts, and milk shakes. (It's closed for dinner.) Many places are described as being "tucked into a strip mall," but Harbor really is hidden in the far-end corner of the South Harbor Plaza. Don't waffle and you'll be sure to find it.
