Slouching Toward Babylon

The gay hot spot of the future

SAT 7/3Let's put the old question to rest, OK? Life does imitate art. At least, if the art happens to be the successful -- and sexplicit -- Showtime series Queer as Folk, now in its fourth season of letting it all hang out. To drum up even more libidinous energy, Showtime has put a futuristic replica of QAF's fictional Pittsburgh nightclub, Babylon, on tour, imagining what the place will look like in the year 2050. The "Future Babylon" traveling nightclub comes to Fort Lauderdale's Coliseum (2520 S. Miami Rd., Fort Lauderdale) this Saturday, re-creating the scene where the cast of our favorite sex opera likes to party -- but 46 years from now. Find out: Will the twinkie go-go boys of tomorrow still wear faux cowboy duds, crotchless leather pants, and sailor suits? Will gay clubs still dazzle their dancers in showers of glittering confetti? You'll even have a chance -- if you dare -- to experience firsthand the notorious "back rooms," where you might run into a Brian Kinney look-alike in some dark corner of ultra-hyperreality. DJ Tracy Young handles the music; fierce futuristic set design and decor is by Miami's RKM . Bring your own time capsules. Tickets cost $20 at the door; the event runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Visit www.coliseumnightclub.com . --Gail ShepherdHands Off

Fight the temptation

SAT 7/3

Fashion shows aren't everyday events in Broward County. Sure, Miami's South Beach is an international hot spot for the style world, but that's about an hour away. Up here, most catwalks have a couple of poles, and the clothes aren't the attraction -- they're a distraction. Since that's the case, it's understandable if you're a little behind on fashion-show etiquette. Hence the name "Tempted to Touch" -- Saturday's fashion show at Marabou Café (9940 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines). The event features models from Natural Trend Setters hair salon. And they'll hardly be touting maternity wear; the skimpier, the better. Hosted by standup comic Rayzor (with special guest Wayne Anthony), the show includes music by Chip Lee and the Impressionz as well as the latest designs by Pretty Gangster, Cursiz, and the Closet. Remember, this is a fashion event, so try to look sharp. Think elegantly casual. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door for ages 21 and up. The show starts at 11 p.m. Call 305-502-1275. --Jason BudjinskiOz Fest

Dorothy meets DeNiro

SAT 7/3

This weekend, if you happen by the Town Center at Boca Raton (6000 Glades Rd., Boca Raton), don't be alarmed if you see munchkins scurrying about. You're not hallucinating. There really are munchkins -- and they're the real deal too (albeit a little older). Yep, two actors who played munchkins in The Wizard of Oz will be on hand Saturday and Sunday as part of the "Lights! Camera! Classics!" exhibit. Also making an appearance are the red ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland, as well as classic Hollywood memorabilia, like the boxing gloves and shorts Robert DeNiro wore in Raging Bull, and the prison outfit worn by Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke. Call 561-368-6001. --Jason Budjinski One Big Bashment

Rhaatid! In case you didn't know, that's Jamaican for "Damn!" It's also the name of the hottest Caribbean club night to grace West Palm Beach. On the first Saturday of every month, from 10 p.m. on, the crew from Full-A-Vibes brings the party to the Reggae Palace (1900 Okeechobee Blvd.). This month features Richie-D, the reggae producer who had a hand in Sean Paul's single "Punkie." Dis ting gon' be no less than bashy! Visit www.fullavibes.com. -- Deirdra Funcheon
