Grab Your Bunny Slippers!

PJ party at XIT

SAT 8/7

Everybody knows that the worst part about going out for a long night of clubbing is the part where you have to come home. Never mind the suicidal drivers piloting death shuttles down I-95 at 4:30 in the morning; you're an expert at dodging those by now. We're talking about coming home and wiggling free from your tight, sweaty, rum-stained miniskirt and trying to find some pajamas before passing out. The genius merrymakers of the Euphoria Project just made the task of partying a gajillion times easier by instructing you to wear your PJs (or lingerie) out to Club XIT (219 N. 21st Ave., Hollywood) for the "Temptation" event. Why, it's as though they suggested eating dessert before dinner! Or having a bachelor party before you've even found a girlfriend! Or applying for that next opening on the Space Shuttle before you've graduated from BCC! If that weren't brilliant enough, the Euphoria peeps have, in their usual fashion, arranged for a stellar lineup of 16 DJs, including Rob Real (spinning breaks and electro), Rotfly (organic drum 'n' bass), and Kriya (tribal). So toss the ratty boxers, invest in a good pair of bunny slippers, and go blow a wad in Victoria's Secret. You have a fantastic excuse. Happy B-day, Mon!

Independence for I and I

SUN 8/8

The 1960s will always be remembered in America as a time of social change. But we weren't the only country undergoing cultural liberation. Indeed, our reforms seem a little mild compared to the changes that took place in Jamaica. Friday marks the 42nd anniversary of Jamaica's independence after more than 300 years of British colonization. Since then, Jamaica's cultural exports have become an influence throughout the West, and the island has long been a hot spot for sun-seeking tourists (and don't forget the country's Olympic bobsled team!). So it's a safe bet that you'll enjoy today's Jamaican Independence Celebration at John Prince Park (4759 S. Congress Ave., Lake Worth), which features live music by the Fabulous Five, Frankie Paul, and Cotton Cuffi as well as plenty of Jamaican food, art, and various cultural activities. The celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call 561-301-9662. --Jason Budjinski

See Me, Hear Me

And please -- vote for me!

FRI 8/6

Visual art exhibits may be pleasing to the eye, but that doesn't leave much enjoyment for the ear. So why not bring in live music? Better yet, instead of critiquing the art, why not judge the music? ArtServe (1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) does both with "Expressions of Music," tonight's artists' reception and singer/songwriter competition. Visual artists include Irwin Weintraub, Nadine Floyd, and Timothy Leistner; the finalists in the music competition are Peter Betan, Kim Drake, Hope Littwin, Bettis Richardson, and Spanks T. Urquhart. The winner will get two songs produced at Ridenour Productions and a year membership to OnlineGigs.com. The free reception opens at 6 p.m. Call 954-390-7610. --Jason Budjinski

Re-live Your Misspent Youth

SAT 8/7

Steely Dan. The Moody Blues. Tie-dyed T-shirts. If hearing this lineup thrusts you abruptly back to the days when you were sneaking out during biology lab to smoke a doobie, you probably graduated high school somewhere around 1975. And the organizers of Reunion Night at Montella Park (1231 N. 69th Way, Hollywood) have your number. Go win prizes for largest class in attendance and best tie-dye, and listen to '70s covers with Breeze from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Food sales benefit the Starting Place. Free. Call 954-921-3404. --Gail Shepherd
