The recent passing of John Peel was a major bummer for bands worldwide, many of whom looked to the BBC Radio 1 DJ as the only open ear in the music industry. One such band is Napalm Death. In 1987, when popular opinion was against grindcore, Peel heartily gave the band its share of the airwaves. With its debut album, Scum, Napalm Death took the notion of short, rapid-fire songs to the furthest extreme; of the 28 songs on the album, 12 clock in at under a minute. Napalm Death drops in tonight at 7 at the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). Also playing are Cannibal Corpse, Macabre, Goatwhore, and Kataklysm. Tickets cost $22.50.
