"My project is about the ritual of getting ready," Katz says. "A behind-the-scenes look at the girls picking out their clothes, getting dressed, and having their hair and makeup done."

Katz's pictures of pageants taken earlier this year in Orlando and Atlanta earned her a trip to Amsterdam last month as one of a dozen photographers from around the world to participate in the prestigious World Press Joop Swart Masterclass, which was held in November and is named after the late honorary chairman of the World Press Photo Foundation.
