South Florida Folk and Acoustic Music Festival

In a world where it seems like the angriest rock bands win, the often-forgotten genre of folk music sits on the sidelines, patiently strumming along as it has for generations. Today's folk music scene is vital and inclusive, encompassing bluegrass, country, and all aspects of "singer-songwriter-ness." The South Florida Folk and Acoustic Music Festival offers a breath-of-fresh-air weekend filled with lively music for the entire family, and features drum circles, open jam tents, a songwriter contest, a pickin' and fiddlin' showdown, and activities for the kids. It's almost like being transported back to a time when families liked each other, Dad wasn't addicted to internet porn, and Mom didn't tell you on a daily basis that men are pigs. Breathe it in.

The South Florida Folk and Acoustic Music Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, January 15 and 16, at Easterlin Park, 1000 NW 38th St., Oakland Park. Tickets cost $20 per day or $35 for both days. Kids under 18 get in free. Call 954-938-0610.
