Big Bossa Man

DJ Da Lua

Maximizing Miami's place as a crossroads between the Americas and the Caribbean, the Heineken Transatlantic Festival is a globally aware music series voted Best Festival last year by Miami New Times. This year's festival kicks off in sultry style as DJ Da Lua brings neo-bossa beats to the swank outdoor digs at Big Fish, a cozy Italian seafood restaurant nestled alongside the Miami River. Da Lua is a founding member of the acclaimed electro-bossa trio Bossacucanova and released his first solo album, Tranquilo, last year. His style is fusionistic, mixing breezy acoustic guitar with hypnotic dub bass lines and shifting drum 'n' bass textures, but its roots lie in the lush, playful traditions of Brazilian bossa nova. This is a great chance to see a true international talent lay down some fresh sounds in an offbeat spot. Best of all, the gig is free.
