Bully for You

Decibully

With a moniker like Decibully, one might conclude that this band was another irreverent, Cramps-descended, demented rock outfit, like Killbilly, the Blubbery Hellbellies, and Déja Voodoo. Rather, Decibully is a Milwaukee septet combining two seemingly disparate strands of indie rock: ornate, neo-progressive art-rock (think Polyphonic Spree) and rootsy Americana (Uncle Tupelo, Lil' Cap'n Travis). And it's the deferential tension between these "opposites" coupled with the amiably warm yet powerful vocals of William Seidel that renders them unique. Their latest platter, Sing Out America!, is even more adventurously inclusive -- glomming the Irish folk overtones of the rollicking, banjo-driven "Megan & Magill," the classy a cappella harmonies of "Temptation," and the psychedelic glaze on the power-pop zing of "I'm Gonna Tell You." While a lot of bands are one-trick ponies, Decibully is brainy and eclectic while remembering to show you a good time.

Decibully performs along with the Snake the Cross the Crown and Codeseven at 9 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $6 to $8. Call 561-832-9999.
