Maroon 5 and the Donnas
When you hear the name Maroon 5, generally the first words that pop into your head are atrociously overexposed.The machine behind Maroon 5 has saturated the market so heavily that it feels like this is the group's umpteenth time around the globe, despite the fact that it's actually embarking on only its second nationwide tour. As much as I cringe now when I hear their first single, "Harder to Breathe," I remember the first time I heard it and thought at the time, "Hmm... Not quite giving the finger to mainstream radio, but they don't appear to smoke as many corporate poles as Britney Spears. Half a thumb up." Then I heard said single about a gazillion times, and then I heard its follow-up, "This Love," a gazillion times more. So I took my thumb back. Not that the songs are bad, but there's only so much one human being can take. Is that fair? Who knows. But there's something to be said for leaving the crowd wanting more.
