The Broward arm of the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival features a collection of short-and-sweet flicks by women filmmakers during a screening called What Girls Like. Without the filler that plagues the usual 90-minute movie, these films go straight for steamy phone sex between strangers (in Getting to Know You) and action shots of bad-ass biker chicks straddling their machines in a quest for truth and freedom (in F*Stop.)

The six shorts clock in at a mere 76 minutes, leaving time for you to chat with the festival's stars. Director Liz Lachman, producers Caren Block and Paula Dowd, and actors Michelle C. Bonilla and Elizabeth Keener will be in attendance to talk to the audience. After the films, the party spills over to Elements (3073 NE Sixth Ave., Wilton Manors), where conversations go deeper with lots of drinks and dancing.

Watching nature shows can be captivating, but the diminutive size of the average television can leave you wondering, "What is this -- a TV for ants?" To show a life-sized elephant, the screen needs to be at least three times as big. At Wild Safari 3D, playing this weekend at the Blockbuster IMAX Theatre (401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale), an African safari will leap off the five-story screen. The film follows native South African Liesl Eichenberger in search of Africa's "Big Five" animals: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo.
