Me Llamo Ska

Skampida

Skampida makes ska's syncopated bounce and saucy Afro-Latin rhythms the foundation for heavily politicized lyrics. The inflammatory nonet hails from Colombia, a country plagued by social problems and government corruption (not dissimilar to the good ol' red, white, and blue) and has been using Miami as an outpost for the past couple of months. At home, Skampida is a well-known stage wrecker, and South Florida and New York have caught on as well. The group's grindable, punk-infused ska en español owes a lot to pioneering acts like Los Fabulosas Cadillacs and Molotov, other Latin bands that talk loud and rock even louder. Catch them now, and don't forget to pay attention to the words while you're shaking your ass.

Skampida plays at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Jazid, 1342 Washington Ave., Miami Beach. Admission is free. Call 305-673-9372.
