Marky Ramone -- Middle-age Lobotomy
Marky Ramone -- Middle-age Lobotomy

John Webber, manager of Wine World (1201 N. Federal Hwy., Ste. 5D, Fort Lauderdale) is excited about his industry these days. "In the last 20 years, we've experienced a golden age of great winemaking. There's hardly a bad wine out there." If you want to move past the chardonnays, cabernets, and merlots of Publix, to know the good from the bad and the nasty from the dee-lish, then Webber suggests you "build up what we call a tasting memory." Translation: Try lots of wines. A good place to start? Wine Down Wednesdays, a joint production between Wine World and its adjacent restaurant, Casa D'Angelo. These weekly tastings feature appetizers -- like bruscetta, olives, and cheeses -- plus several wines based around a theme. (One week, it was "Spanish Reds"; another Wednesday featured "South of the Equator" wines from Chile, South Africa, and Australia.) The event costs $15 and lasts from 5 to 7 p.m. Call 954-416-1234.
