Deep Blues

Eddie Turner

Axeman Eddie Turner might be known as a master of psychedelic blues guitar, but his sound owes as much to the folksy slidework of Duane Allman as to Jimi Hendrix's brain-blistering feedback. Turner has the perfect pedigree for a premier six-string slinger: He was born in Cuba, raised in Chicago, and schooled in Colorado. His sound reflects that geographical diversity, deeply rhythmic, soaked in blues, and nimble enough to sparkle with catchy rock chops. While he spent the past several years playing guitar for modern blues honcho Otis Taylor, Turner recently debuted with his own group. Rise sifts the raw power of Turner's guitar and husky voice into a variety of styles, from eerie swamp stomp to razor-sharp Chicago blues to full-tilt rock. His live show is supposed to be just as exceptional, so expect a full palette of blues and a roomful of reverb.

Eddie Turner plays at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Bamboo Room, 25 S. "J" St., Lake Worth. Tickets cost $15 plus tax. Call 561- 585-BLUE.
