When I say the words Las Vegas, what musical acts pop into your mind? Wayne Newton, Elvis Presley, and Dean Martin all sound about right, huh? Well, you're dead wrong, sonny. Collective Soul is what Vegas is about. Oh, you didn't know? That's OK -- neither did anyone else on the planet. It turns out that Sin City is trying to drum up some tourism dollars by helping to stage concerts in primary Vegas feeder locations around the country. One of those locations is the Culture Room, which will be transformed into a Vegas-like paradise of Elvis impersonators, showgirls, tacky flash, and, of course, Collective Soul. It's not only time to revive Las Vegas (was it in trouble recently?); it's also time to revive yet another era in music: Radio-Friendly Sort of Post-Grunge But Not Really. Two great tastes that go great together? Hmm...
Collective Soul plays at 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets to this 21-and-older show cost $24.99. Call 954-564-1074.
