Oteil and the Peacemakers

Betcha holiday time at the Burbridge home is a helluva party. Older brother Kofi is the virtuoso flautist and keyboardist for the Derek Trucks Band, and the younger Oteil plays bass with that legendary rock 'n' roll fraternity known as the Allman Brothers Band. I imagine copious whiskey, lots of hair, and marathon jam sessions. When Burbridge isn't hammering out thick, nimble bass lines for the Allmans, he gets around with his own powerhouse five-piece, the Peacemakers. Gospel influence shines with spirited scatting, elevating what might normally be standard jam-band noodling into something Burbridge proudly calls "jazzy Jesus funk." Soulful vocals, guitar, and righteous organ further deepen the groove. Busy as his schedule is -- his other bands include Aquarium Rescue Unit and Vida Blue with Phish's Page McConnell -- it's a rare treat to catch Burbridge in his own element. Hallelujah!

Oteil and the Peacemakers play at 9 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Bamboo Room, 25 S. "J" St., Lake Worth. Tickets cost $18. Call 561-585-2583.
