THU 7/14

Despite what you may have heard from disgruntled basketball fans in New Jersey and Toronto, the Heat's Alonzo Mourning is one of the NBA's most selfless players. Besides donating his salary this year to charity, he runs Zo's Summer Groove,a community staple that raises more than $4.5 million for various South Florida charities.

The ninth-annual event begins this week with four days of events benefiting underprivileged children in Miami-Dade County. There's plenty to do for those with bling: Try Thursday's Golf Tournament ($750 per person) and Friday night's Gala ($250 to $5,000 a plate).

But for those with normal incomes, there's Thursday's ZSG Comedy Show at the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) featuring comics D.L. Hughley, Adele Givens, Bruce Bruce, Arnez J, and more. Tickets cost $35 to $60. And the weekend's real draw is Saturday's All-Star Basketball Game, which is also at the Triple A. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. and features NBA stars Antoine Walker, Keyon Dooling, Dwyane Wade, Cuttino Mobley, Quentin Richardson, Amare Stoudemire, and Steve Francis. Tickets cost $12 to $60. Come out early to enjoy live music, entertainment, and activities at the free block party in front of the arena starting at 1 p.m. Call 305-476-0096, or visit www.zsg.com. -- Paul A. Leone

Ride On

62's the magic number

SUN 7/17 Upon turning 62, Boca Raton Bicycle Club member Frank Stark vowed to ride his bike 62 miles nonstop. While that's a long trek for almost anyone, Stark (who passed away in 1999) had previously suffered two heart attacks and undergone quadruple bypass surgery. Sunday's 16th Annual Frank Stark Celebration Ride is held in honor of Stark's incredible will. Though the main ride is a full 62 miles, participants can opt for the 30-mile or 12-mile rides. Either way, there are plenty of rest stops for replenishing those lost electrolytes. The biking begins at 8 a.m. in front of Boca Raton City Hall (201 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton). A $35 entrance fee includes a T-shirt. Call 561-391-6109, or visit www.starkride.org. -- Jason Budjinski
