Let's Get Metaphysical

Tori Amos

Dare I ask: Is Tori Amos still a relevant force in the music industry? Reply from ardent fans ranging in age 13 to 52: Yes, she is. And why? It must be the subtle values and soothing spirituality of her lyrics and arrangements. And while the times have slipped on since her prominent days in the '90s, the girl can still write and perform. Her ninth album, The Beekeeper, returns to ruminations on God, exploring Christianity's ages-old battle between the boys and the girls that The Da Vinci Code bastardized for the masses. Feminism aside, this church-reared songbird is an excellent ambassador for theological dialogue and, yes, continues to be a potent and refreshing voice in the industry. Also on the bill is singer Imogen Heap from Brit popstresses Frou Frou and the sexy/artsy, Luscious Jackson-like duo the Ditty Bops, peddling a delicious, self-released record.

Tori Amos, the Ditty Bops, and Imogen Heap perform at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, at Sound Advice Amphitheatre, 601-7 Sansbury's Way, West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $39 to $49. Call 561-793-0445.
