Life of Brian

The Brian Jonestown Massacre

Word has it that Anton Newcombe -- the only constant in the always wobbly world that is the Brian Jonestown Massacre-- is quite unpleased with his portrayal in the recent rockumentary Dig!Odd, since the film makes him out to be an unquestionably talented madcap savant who's a helluva lot more interesting than anyone in the Dandy Warhols, also profiled in the flick. The BJM's quirky, sub-Stones-y series of underwhelming paisley/psychedelia records suffers from the lack of on-stage meltdowns, drug busts, and the multitudinous missed opportunities depicted in Dig!, but their live shows have a well-earned reputation for messy chaos. The band's also known for failing to make it to a lot of shows, which isn't fun for anybody. Let's hope Anton doesn't pull a Newcombe and the band's South Florida debut goes off without a hitch. Is that too much to ask?

The Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Quarter After, Innaway, and Secret French Kissing Society perform at 8 p.m. Monday, August 8, at Respectable Street, 518 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $10 and $12. Call 561-832-9999.
