Sloppy High Fives
They may not be changing the world, but the Sloppy High Fives wield a brand of hard-charging, three-chord rock that's more than enough to get the beer-soaked throngs off their stools and in front of the stage. By their own description, the Fives have taken the wheels off the car and are spinning cinder blocks instead, keeping alive the timeless 'she-done-me-wrong-but-can-I-get-a-piece-and-show-off-all-the-ways-I-can-rock' sentiment. The Boynton Beach three-piece is currently looking for a guitarist and is working on new songs, but has a healthy stable to draw from. They recently opened for punk stalwarts GBH and have spent years picking up cred around South Florida. Knowing that sloppy is the only way to go is half the battle, and working within the space of the Supersuckers and Hot Snakes, or even the Turbo ACs and the Gaza Strippers without the punk, the Fives get the job done.
The Sloppy High Fives, and Red State Riot play at 10 p.m., Friday, August 26, at Gumwrappers, 3233 N. Ocean Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets for guys cost $5, ladies get in free. Call 954-565-9264.
