Into the Infinite

Perpetual Groove

There are two kinds of people in this world: the kind that likes Dave Matthews Band and the kind that likes good music. I'm not saying dear ol' Dave is a bad person, but he was a much better person before he began believing his own exaggerated press. So for all those people who like good music, there's Perpetual Groove. These fresh, innovative, electro-acousto funksters spice up the night with sorties into nimble jazz jam, electronic loops, and improv rock. And they've been at it since '97, when singer/guitarist Brock Butler and bassist Adam Perry buddied up at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Working on a strict DIY ethic in which you, the fan, are always number one, they've added drums and keys, released an acclaimed album, and built a strong underground following with steady touring across the country. Sort of like the Matthews band back in the day, only with less ego and more heart.

Perpetual Groove plays at 9 p.m. Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Ft. Lauderdale. Advance tickets cost $10 or $12 at the door. Call 954-564-1074.
