What's so funny about psychological trauma, anyway? It's hard to say unless you're the kind of person who's actually been there and overcome it. Wendy White is that kind of person, having been institutionalized by her own parents in efforts to prevent her from revealing a family secret. She also made it through her struggle in one piece, strengthened by the experience and driven to document it in Roses Are Blind, White's true-life tale of darkness and redemption. The Lauderdale-by-the-Sea playwright mines humor from tragedy and in the process reveals the powerful resilience of the human psyche. These four South Florida performances are to raise money to help fund the play's debut at the International Theater Festival at the Theater de Cameleon in Amsterdam, Holland, later in October. The first show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St ., Fort Lauderdale). Tonight's show takes place at 8 at ArtServe (1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $20. Call 954-786-1080. (JZ)
