Swooping down from the soggy Gulf Coast like a band of funky-ass angels is an all-star band that's easily the most impressive collection of roots-rock and Americana talent this region's seen in quite a while. Led by the deranged and dreadlocked Papa Mali, the group comprises North Floridians J.J. Grey and Darryl Hance of Mofro, Crescent City swingers John Gros and Jellybean Alexander of Papa Grows Funk, Kirk Joseph of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and more. All these soulful Samaritans come together for two nights at the Bamboo Room for the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Benefit. With a second, outdoor stage set up to complement the usual indoor entertainment, plus catered N'awleans cuisine, a silent auction, and raffles for cool prizes like autographed guitars and gift certificates to local restaurants, there's plenty of places to drop your dollars. And every one of those dollars goes to MusiCares, a national organization that helps musicians on the rocks recover from personal tragedy, à la Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Any which way you turn, you'll be doing good.

The MusiCares Hurricane Relief Benefit starts at 7 p.m. Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, at the Bamboo Room, 25 S. "J" St., Lake Worth. Your entire $25 admission goes to MusiCares. Call 561-585-2583.
