That Toddlin' Town

Chicago Blues on Harrison Street

When the ocean breezes of Florida get a little tetchy, a city with winter winds that smack like a hand across the face might feel like a welcome respite. "But I can't get up to Chicago as often as I'd like!" you cry. Hold on — a taste of Chicago is nigh, and the price is right. At Chicago Blues on Harrison Street,leather-lunged Koko Taylor, the "Queen of Chicago Blues" who bears the torch of singers Big Mama Thornton and Memphis Minnie, headlines an all-day series of performances. Former Florida resident Big Bill Morganfield has the right stuff in his DNA, as his padre is blues icon Muddy Waters. A former media princess of Eros, the adorably corpulent Candye Kane purveys a swing-endowed variant on the music, while Big James & the Chicago Playboys inject serious, horn-y funk. Keep an eye out for locals Kenny's All Star Jam Band and surprise guests. It's like Miracle Mile at Young Circle.

Candye Kane will be hanging out on Harrison this weekend.
