Les Ballets Trocadero de Monte Carlo

Ballet – so graceful, so beautiful … yet so ripe for parody. When left in the hands of a suitably oafish comic a lá Will Ferrell, a ballet performance might later haunt audience members in their sleep. The men of Les Ballets Trockadero De Monte Carlo – better known as “the Trocks” – are honest-to-goodness dancers. They don’t make a mockery of ballet; it’s more like a trockery. Sure, they may look a little silly dressed in tutus and fake eyelashes, but the Trocks do more than play out the tired “men in tights” joke. Their humor is more pointed, making light of the occasional follies that occur in serious ballets by exaggerating them to farcical levels. It’s a feat best left to the pros, and these guys are as professional as they come, having spent the past three decades refining their craft. The fact that the Trocks can equally amuse audiences from New York City to Madrid (and some 500 cities in between) is proof that their act is as much high art as it is high humor. This is one group that can claim to be “big in Japan” and have the fans to back it up. The Trocks perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts (801 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach). Tickets cost $15 to $55 . Call 561-833-8300.
