MTV is up on it. Rolling Stone digs it, too. So when will South Florida finally get hip to garage rock? Screamo this, emo that… even noise bands have more of a scene than those reared on Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. So it’s not surprising to learn that when the Pretty Facesemerged from Coral Springs two-and-a-half years ago, it was after a cross-continental relocation.

Formed in Ontario, Canada, in July 2003, the Pretty Faces’ Jeph and Tom Thorslund moved to South Florida a month later. The band’s name may seem like a cheeky piss-take at rock star vanity or an ode to mod culture. But it’s a reference to the Stooges’ “Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell,” which sums up both the Faces’ musical style as well as their attitude – straight ahead, raw, and unpretentious, yet delivered with enough tunefulness to stay in your head after the dancing stops. (You will be dancing, you know.)

The Pretty Faces take the stage/floor this Saturday at Dada (52 Swinton Ave., Delray Beach). The free show starts at 10 p.m. Call 561-330-DADA.
