Don't Panic!

Panic! At the Disco

It's hard to imagine Panic! At the Disco has much to panic about, considering how much ridiculously good fortune has befallen the band in the past few years. Shortly after forming and naming themselves after a line in the Name Taken song "Panic," the high school-aged, Las Vegas-based fourpiece posted two tracks on Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz's web journal, requesting he give a listen. A few weeks later, Wentz showed up to one of their practices and signed them to his Decaydence label. Problem was, Panic! still hadn't figured out a sound for themselves. Hell, they hadn't even performed live yet. That didn't come until after they recorded their debut, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out— an experimental mix of futuristic synths and vaudevillian instrumentation, built upon a solid base of emo-tastic bellyaching. Luck might've got them signed, but it had nothing to do with how good their music sounds.

Panic! At the Disco plays with the Academy Is, Acceptance, and Hellogoodbye at 6 p.m. Saturday, February 18, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are sold out. Call 954-727-0950.
