On the 26th edition of Fabric — host to arguably some of the most forward-thinking DJ mixes on the market (save for Studio Distribution's long-running DJ-Kicks series) — electronic dance duo Global Communication explores future soul. British producers Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard capably mix a multitude of dance floor genres, finding common ground among electronic soul singer Steve Spacek ("I'm Glad"), Madlib protégé Med ("Now U Know"), and click-hop producer Dabrye ("No Child of God"). 26 begins with hip-hop beats, then briefly falters with boring, mechanical instrumentals like Danny Breaks' "The Octopus," before kicking into high gear with sumptuous house cuts from As One ("Rumors") and Soul Mekanik ("Robots"), closing with Middleton's own "Margherita." Though not necessarily a perfect offering, Global Communication's Fabric 26 is an intriguing and often inspiring adventure.
