Nowadays, the massive Miami tennis tournament is called the NASDAQ-100 Open, but locals still refer to it as the Lipton International Players Championships, which was its name for 15 years. The 12-day extravaganza features so many of the world’s top players that it used to be nicknamed the “Winter Wimbledon.” At times, it could have been called “The Andre Agassi Show,” as the modern sports legend has won the whole shebang a whopping six times. @body:It doesn’t matter what you call it; the important thing is who you’ll see: Agassi, now ranked eighth in the world but lately frustrated with his game and rumored to be wrapping up his career. Current number-one Roger Federer. World number-three and Boca Raton homeboy Andy Roddick. On the ladies’ side of things, Wonder Twin Powers will activate with Venus (now in tenth place on the women’s pro circuit) and Serena Williams (#36). Kim Clijsters, who entered unranked last year and then won the whole tournament, will try to defend her title. And Lindsay Davenport, who hasn’t played in Miami since 2003, will come in swinging. In fact, this tournament is required play for the 75 top-ranked women in the world. Play began on March 22 and runs through April 2 at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park (7300 Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne). Festivities surrounding the tournament include a wheelchair tennis tournament, three fashion shows, a champagne tasting, and a lunch/cooking demo with world-famous chef Michelle Bernstein. Tickets cost $5 to $150. Call 305-442-3367, or visit www.nasdaq-100open.com.
