Scratch That Glitch

Prefuse 73

Barcelona-based Prefuse 73,the many-monikered man otherwise known as Scott Herren, is about to drop a triple whammy on South Florida. With Security Screenings, his new "mini-album" in tow, Herren is sure to wreak havoc on his laptop and decks after being burned by haters of 2005's Surrounded by Silence. Criticized as too collaborative and not Prefuse-y enough, Surrounded strayed from the tried-and-true glitch-soul infusion that has seen Prefuse through for years. Security Screenings shaves off most vocal traces and shoots for the family jewels, even sampling a radio interview gone awry. Practically instrumental, with bucolic mashups of his myriad influences, Security Screenings sees Herren acing his post-hip-hop homework. The only cameos here are via Four Tet and TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpo. Not only do they refrain from stealing our boy's thunder but they add enough oomph to heighten the Prefuse 73 glow. Don't miss the chance to bask in it yourself.

Prefuse 73 and posse, along with Ursula 1000, Farhid, Fort Knox Knife, and Contra, play at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Poplife at the District, 35 NE 40th St., Miami. Call 305-576-7242. He plays with Adam Freeland, Evil Nine, and K-Swing at 10 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Angel Ultra Lounge, 247 23rd St., Miami Beach. Tickets cost $30. Call 305-695-1713.
