Afternoon Delight

“With my company, even though we might do a jazz turn, the way we do it is a hip-hop way. If we do a ballet leap, it’s more street-related.” So says Pablo Malco, founder of Pfuzion Entertainment, a company of 11 high-energy dancers. “We mix trendy hip-hop, like the stuff you see on TV , with house dancing, popping, locking, and breakdance – combined with modern dance and jazz.” Malco’s ability to put a unique hip-hop spin on more traditional dances has earned him a hot reputation as far away as Germany, Austria, and Slovakia; dance troupes there invite him over to teach workshops three times a year.

With so many different styles and flashy moves, six dance pieces (including three premieres) by Pfuzion could, by themselves, entertain your eyeballs for an afternoon. But instead of keeping the spotlight to himself, Malco has generously invited six other companies and a couple of vocalists to show their stuff onstage during his annual Choreographers’ Ball at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $28.50 to $38.50, and the show starts at 3 p.m. Call 954-462-0222, or visit www.pfuzion.com.
