Pool Party!

Inside a pub

Another April Fool’s Day has passed, and so has the fear of being pranked by your buddies around the office. Now it’s time for another annual April event -- April Pool’s Day, the yearly fiesta hosted by Miami’s kings of creep-core, Pool Party. OK, so maybe creep-core isn’t a real genre, but how else can you describe a band fronted by a dude in board shorts and aviator glasses who sings about how he likes being touched? We’re talking creep with a capital c. No really, that’s his name – Creep Guirdo.

“It is not uncommon for the ladies to lay their hands all over us when we play live,” Guirdo says. “Usually, during the song ‘Touch,’ a lady or two will be touching me during the guitar solo.” Uh-huh. But it’s not just the group’s good looks that causes such behavior (as if!). Its music has been known to trigger similar reactions. A typical Pool Party set runs the gamut from Ramones-style punk, pop-punk, and garage, to disco, dance, Kraftwerk-type robot music, freestyle, gospel, and country. And, yet, the band fit right in when SoFla Records included its song “Wutchu Got 4 Me” on the compilation, SoFla, So Good, So What? But while that song has eight keyboard tracks on the recording, Guirdo says the live version will be stripped down to its bare essentials – just the way he likes, well, everything. The party starts at 10 p.m. Friday at Churchill’s Pub (5501 NE Second Ave., Miami). Also performing are the Nancy Boys and the Remnants. Admission costs $6. Call 305-757-1807.
Fri., April 14
