Chipmunk Pie, Anyone?

Southern Culture on the Skids

Perhaps you haven't had the pleasure of taking part in the fried-chicken-eating, boogaloo-dancing, good ol'-fashioned hoedown that is a Southern Culture on the Skids show. Maybe you haven't heard the Appalachian surf-punk, mud-soaked guitar playing of Rick Miller. There is an off-chance that the incredible power of the beautiful, bouffant-clad Miss X and her country-swing bass has escaped you. If all that's the case, son, it's in your best interest to get onboard the SCOTS jalopy right now. The North Carolina trio has been spreading Cackalacky good cheer — not to mention elevating crackerdom to an art form — since its formation in Chapel Hill in 1985. This year marks the return to South Florida after a poor turnout a few years back at I/O as well as the release of Double Wide and Live, a rollicking live disc on their latest home, Yep Roc Records.
