The artist formerly known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince once sang, Tonight, were gonna party like its 1997! Okay, maybe thats not the exact year he chose, but dont tell that to New Jersey sextet Catch 22.The band is tenaciously still riding the ska-punk third wave that crested some nine years ago. Still, theres a reason that a decade into their career, these guys havent hung up their horns just yet. Simply put, Catch 22 is mightier than a Bosstone and reeler than a Big Fish, bringing street-level punk cred to a genre thats always been a little Less Than Jake.
Currently on the road promoting the soon to be released Permanent Revolution, Catch 22 has found an interesting way to connect to its fans this time out. Groups of four or more who buy advance tour tickets through the bands website are rewarded with admission to the sound-check and the opportunity to hang out with the band before the show. Now thats keeping it reel, er, real. Catch 22 joins the Tossers, the Flatliners, and Patent Pending this Tuesday at the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale). Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 in advance, $14 at the door. Call 954-564-1074, or visit www.njcatch22.com.
