Love Your Mother

While local politicians were busy bending over for developers, a Palm Beach County middle school student named Efrain Marti was rounding up signatures to stop some of the bulldozing -- specifically, that which endangered the lives of an already endangered species, the gopher tortoise. Marti succeeded, having collected 709 signatures. Now he’s the recipient of the first Environmental Steward award presented by the Museum of Discovery and Science (401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Sure enough, the museum is honoring Marti as part of this Saturday’s Earth Day Celebration. Most of us could still learn a thing or two about environmental responsibility, and there’s plenty of eco info here to be taught, from facts about conservation to the skinny on nutrition (the museum’s solar-cooked S’mores treats, notwithstanding). Activities take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A second Earth Day event is held April 29. Call 954-467-6637, or visit www.mods.org.
Sat., April 22
