Nice Hand, There

In the old days, there were certain things men were automatically expected to know how to do -- change a tire, put on a necktie, and play poker. Now, thanks to satellite TV, cruise ships, and online gambling sites, the classic card game is more popular than ever. But it's not just the domain of cigar-chomping guys in grimy undershirts hunched over a fold-out table. Nowadays, there are plenty of ladies who regularly kick ass and take the cash. Just ask Stacy Matuson. She's a professional poker player who recently won $100,000 at the World Poker Tour finals in Aruba. Sure, that’s nice, you’re thinking, but what does this have to do with me? Well, if you want to learn when to hold ´em and when to fold ´em, Thursday’s your chance; Matuson is teaching a No Limit Poker For Dummies class at Grumpy Dick's Seafood Grill (801 S. University Dr., Plantation). Learn the strategies, mentality, the art of betting, and, of course, the poker face. Need visual aids? Well, Matuson has a video of her performance at the finals, which she explains and analyzes. The class begins at 8 p.m. and costs $15, including a complimentary drink and hors d'oeuvres. Call 954-452-1952.
